His musical practice centers on the exploration, transformation, and conscious modification of sonorities and rhythmic structures. His repertoire includes prepared drums, tonbak, daf, piano, field recordings, as well as natural and synthesized found objects.
He develops solo work as Nime and is part of the electroacoustic duo Nadelør (with burgund t brandt). His collaborations include artists such as composer muhawalāt (Khaled Kurbeh) and composer and writer Fabian Saul. From 2016 to 2023, he was a member of the Leipzig-based jazz ensemble Welten. His artistic output further includes performances, sound installations, audio walks, and compositions for exhibitions and theatre contexts.
Alongside his artistic work, Petry is engaged in curatorial and cultural-political practice. Since 2016, he has been a board member of Habeatus e.V. and co-artistic director of the annual Seanaps Festival in Leipzig. He holds a B.A. in Cultural Studies from Leipzig University.
Selected works and releases include Homecoming with SAUL (2024), PPR52 with Nadelør (2023), and four albums with Welten (Jazzlab Hamburg). In 2022, he created the audio walk Klangtour Kunst for Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site. His work has been supported by grants from the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and Musikfonds e.V.
He has presented his work internationally at festivals, museums, and art institutions, including Meakusma Festival (BE), Migros Museum (CH), Stiftung Zollverein Essen (DE), Neue Berliner Kunstverein (DE), Volksbühne Berlin (DE), jazzahead! Bremen (DE), and Rota Festival (ES), as well as at Fusion Festival (DE), Harpa Reykjavík (IS), Salzburg Jazz Festival (AT) and the Leipziger Buchmesse at the stage of Deutschlandfunk (DE).
In addition, he works as a manager for the independent label 99CHANTS since 2024 and assists Swiss drummer and sound artist Julian Sartorius since 2025. From 2020 to 2025 he managed Iranian-German percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi.
